Brexit, what has it got to do with me?
With the European Union referendum date set for Thursday 23rd June, Smoke Magazine thought about how students count benefit from voting to stay inside the EU.
If you’ve made some great European friends you may want to consider voting to stay
in the EU. One of the main principles of EU membership is “free movement”, this means your
pals don’t need a visa to go and live in another country. Handy and also good to know if the
deadlines are getting too much, that you have the possibility to immigrate to another
European country, without all pesky paperwork.
If you are from a European country studying in the UK or a UK student hoping to
travel abroad. Being part of the EU simplifies this process under the ‘Erasmus scheme’
(which provides students with the opportunity to study or undertake work placement abroad
as part of their degree). Tanning and studying could be under serious jeopardy voters,
think of the students!
If you’re concerned about our place in the Eurovision Song Contest – you really have a
great life if this is one of your worries- then have no fear! All participants must be a member of
European Broadcasting Union, which is completely independent to the EU. A ‘brexit’ will not
bring us a forced exit from Eurovision contest (unfortunately).
The competitiveness principles stops monopolies taking place and destroying smaller businesses with their power. Besides, the small shops are the ones that are open 24/7 and give you that fat bag of
Doritos for £1 after a night of some sinful acts towards your liver. Don’t get me wrong Tesco’s meal deals are great but this legislation looks out for our local businesses.
